A SUPPORTED housing project for homeless and vulnerable ex-service personnel, will open next month.

Alabaré’s Portsmouth and Gosport Home for Veterans, will open its doors to ex-servicemen and women, offering accommodation and support to those struggling to adjust to civilian life.

The home in Gosport will provide a supportive environment for four individuals, and hopes to extend that to seven or eight in the future.

The project was made possible thanks to donations from Seafarers UK, the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund and individuals.

Project manager Dave Millward said: ‘There is a huge need for specialist support for ex-armed forces personnel when they leave the services, and we have been informed that there are up to 30 veterans who require help with housing in the Portsmouth area alone.

‘We are delighted to be able to expand our support to the area, and very much look forward to opening our doors within the next month.’

The home will open on August 22.
