CITY MP Penny Mordaunt has attacked the national press for ‘belitting’ Angelina Jolie’s campaign to end sexual violence in war zones.
It comes after foreign secretary William Hague was criticised for holding a four-day summit with the actress over the issue while war raged in Iraq.
Speaking in the House of Commons, Ms Mordaunt said: ‘I’m saddened that, as momentum behind the issues has grown, some of the media have chosen to belittle the contribution of Angelina Jolie at the recent conference rather than focus on the issues that she cares about.’
Mr Hague, in response to Ms Mordaunt, said: ‘It is very important for us to make sure this work reaches all parts of the world.
‘I advise everyone to take full heed of that work and give it full support.’
