SHIP workers who have helped build the Brazilian navy’s latest vessel watched her depart Portsmouth Naval Base.

BAE Systems employees gathered to see APA leave for her new home in Rio de Janeiro. Workers have produced the vessel in partnership with the Brazilian Navy’s support team.

APA is the second of three Amazonas Class Ocean Patrol Vessels being made by both parties.

Nigel Stewart, commercial director of BAE Systems Maritime, said: ‘We’re very proud to watch APA sail off and begin her important role in providing maritime security, search and rescue, and humanitarian relief.’
