MILITARY hovercraft personnel are being urged to attend an event marking the 50th anniversary of hovercraft use in the armed forces.

The Interservice Hovercraft Trials Unit was formed in September 1961 at HMS Daedalus in Lee-on-the-Solent.

A commemorative event will be held at Browndown in Gosport in September this year.

Organisers would like to hear from schools, colleges and youth organisations who want to attend.

They are also looking for military and ex-military personnel to help celebrate the anniversary.

Schools are invited to attend a rehearsal day on September 9 while the public day is on September 11.

Military personnel are invited to watch a mock assault involving landing craft, hovercraft and helicopters on September 10.
