STAFF from HMS Collingwood stopped at a children’s centre to drop off an early Christmas present.

Captain Steven Dainton, commanding officer of HMS Collingwood, along with other staff, went to The Rainbow Centre in Fareham to present them with a cheque for more than £1,200.

The money was raised from fundraising events held at the training establishment.

One of these events was the Norfolk Trophy Christmas Relay which LPT Carley organised and saw them collect more than £500.

This, coupled with money raised during small fundraisers and raffles at the Navy Elite Boxing Championship in March, enabled Collingwood to present a cheque to the centre for £1,219, just in time for Christmas.

During the visit, Captain Dainton and the team were given a tour of the facilities and met the children who the centre helps through conductive education.

He said: ‘I have known about the charity for a while now and have helped with previous fundraising events, but this was the first time I have been able to see first-hand what the centre does.

‘It’s just amazing. I felt so humbled. I am already planning on doing more fundraising next year for The Rainbow Centre.’
