HMS DRAGON has left Malta after the Portsmouth-based warship became the first Type 45 destroyer to visit the island.

The ship stopped off to take on stores before continuing her journey back to the UK.

The ship’s company also took the chance to attend a Remembrance Day event at the Upper Barrakka Saluting Battery overlooking the Grand Harbour, when they arrived in Valletta on November 11.

Dragon’s Commanding Officer, Captain Iain Lower, said: ‘It is a privilege to visit Malta, and especially to take part in an act of remembrance alongside the Maltese and the numerous naval associations that are still on the island.’

HMS Dragon is due back in Portsmouth later this month, after departing from the Naval Base in March.
