WHAT better way to spend a day in perfect weather conditions in the Caribbean than to do doughnuts in a warship?

Though HMS Edinburgh is due to be taken out of service later this year the doughnuts weren’t the result of her crew having a last hurrah while on deployment.

Instead they were used to test both the Type 42 destroyer’s engines at full speed turning right and left. The picture was taken by her Mk 8 Lynx helicopter.

HMS Edinburgh’s captain, Commander Nick Borbone, said: ‘She may be getting on a bit, but she has lost nothing of her power, speed and manoeuvrability over 30 years of service.’

Edinburgh will be leaving service after taking part in the week-long Battle of the Atlantic commemorations in May.
