A RUSSIAN plane that was one of two aircraft to fly off the south coast over the English Channel was carrying a nuclear missile, according to reports.

One of the TU-95 Bear bombers that were escorted by scrambled RAF Typhoons had a seek-and-find warhead, the Sunday Express newspaper reported yesterday. The RAF jets escorted the planes out of the region.

A former RAF pilot believes the flight could have been a response to the inquiry into the death of poisoned Russian dissident Alexander Litvinenko.
