A NAVY officer has been chosen for an important role at a major regatta.

Lieutenant Ed Higgins, from HMS Sultan in Gosport, will be the chief ship’s liaison officer at the Royal Greenwich Tall Ships Regatta in September.

His job will be to link with each vessel’s liaison officer.

The marine engineer submariner, pictured, said: ‘The regatta is a great opportunity for young people, aged 16 to 25, from a number of nations to come together in the spirit of enjoyment, fun and understanding.

‘Sail training in general seeks to develop the life skills and experiences of young people through the challenge of offshore sailing.

‘This regatta is a fantastic chance for me to contribute towards these aims for the benefit of the young people involved.’
