SAILORS who have gone above and beyond in their naval service have been recognised by the Second Sea Lord.

A total of 15 servicemen and women have been commended by Vice-Admiral David Steel for exceptional efforts and contribution to the Royal Navy over the past year.

The recipients ranged from members of navy command, warrant officers, and a naval reservist.

Vice-Adml Steel said: ‘These commendations are my opportunity to recognise those sailors, marines, RFA and civilian personnel who have made an exceptional contribution to the Royal Navy. I am immensely proud to present these outstanding men and women their commendations in front of their families, friends and colleagues and to thank them personally for their hard work and dedication.’

Among those to receive the award was Lieutenant Commander Michelle Welsh.

Lt Cdr Welsh was rewarded for her work as the area training officer for the Eastern Area Sea Cadets.

The 44-year-old said: ‘I am absolutely overwhelmed to have received this honour. It has been a fantastic career and I am honoured to have been recognised.’
