Shipbuilding strategy will boost Royal Navy

A NEW shipbuilding plan will keep the navy as one of the top fighting forces in the world, a minister has said.

Defence minister Philip Dunne made the comments ahead of the government’s National Shipbuilding Strategy – due to be revealed later this year.

He said: ‘It will ensure that the Royal Navy continues to have the capability it needs to protect our nation’s interests, retaining its status as the most modern navy in the world.’

It comes as top MPs are thrashing out a plan to bring lucrative businesses into Portsmouth’s shipyard.
