AS THE USS George H W Bush floated off the coast of the Isle of Wight, dozens of people got their first glimpse of the vast aircraft carrier from Stokes Bay in Gosport.

Jaynie Bush, from Florida, who came over to visit friend, said: ‘This is just so amazing. We came over yesterday, and here is my namesake parked just off shore! It makes me so proud to see it here.’

Dan Nash, 32, from Winchester, drove his wife and two young children to see the ship. He said: ‘She’s stunning and the views of the carrier when we were driving through Lee-on-the-Solent took my breath away.’

Four-year-old Jacob Nash added: ‘I like it, it’s a really big ship.’
