A PLAQUE commemorating Gosport’s links to the Royal Navy Submarine Service will soon be unveiled.

It is dedicated to all submariners past and present and acknowledges Gosport as the birthplace of the submarine service.

It lists the names of six notable submariners, including Ted McGovern. His widow, Barb McGovern, will unveil the plaque at Nelsons Bar in Gosport’s High Street on Friday, December 11 at 8pm.

Former submariner Brian Thomson, of Gosport, said the public were welcome to attend.

Mr Thomson, 49, said: ‘We are expecting quite a few ex-submariners and friends and family there as well.’
