THE Queen visited Portsmouth today to see the warship she sponsors.

Her Majesty went on board HMS Lancaster, a Type 23 frigate which has been part of the Portsmouth fleet since 1992.

She arrived at the navy base to be greeted by Commodore Jeremy Rigby before receiving a Royal Salute.

Her Majesty then embarked in HMS Lancaster to meet members of the crew before having a private lunch on board.

The Queen is the ship’s sponsor as the Duke of Lancaster and takes a keen interest in her deeds around the globe.

The ship returned to Portsmouth last December following a successful seven-month deployment where she helped to seize drugs worth £160m from smugglers.
