PEOPLE in Havant paid tribute to servicemen and women today with a flag-raising ceremony ahead of Armed Forces Day.

The town’s mayor, Councillor Marjorie Smallcorn, joined by veterans, cadets and serving members of the armed forces, raised a flag in honour of the day, which falls on Saturday.

They sang the national anthem along with members of the public who had gathered to watch.

Cllr Smallcorn said: ‘We all share pride in our armed forces and all the men and women, past and present, who serve their country with pride, honour and distinction.

‘I am delighted to have the opportunity to show our appreciation, support and respect for all they do and to recognise the sacrifices so many make for their country.’
