Tributes are beginning to come in following the death of veteran Arctic medal campaigner Eddie Grenfell.

The 93-year-old died at 8am today at his daughter’s home in Southsea.

Penny Mordaunt, the MP for Portsmouth North, said: ‘He was the real deal – a true hero, determined, compassionate and driven.

‘The difference he has made, to our country’s future and to the men who served with him is considerable.

‘Few of us have the opportunity, and are made of the metal, to make our place in history.

‘Eddie did that many times over.

‘We will miss him terribly.’
