THE Mayor of Havant has organised a ceremony to honour the work of the armed forces.

Councillor Ken Smith will be attending a flag-raising ceremony in Emsworth Square on Monday.

The flag will be flown until Saturday, June 25, which is national Armed Forces Day.

The Mayor will be presented with the flag by the Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire, Vice Admiral Sir Roy Newman, at 10am.

A short ceremony will then be led by the Rev Simon Sayers of St James Church in Emsworth, before the flag is raised at 10.30am by a five-man team from HMS Excellent and HMS Bristol.

The flag is half a Union Jack and the words ‘Armed Forces Day, Show Your Support’.

The ceremony is being held next to Emsworth’s refurbished war memorial. Roads will be closed from 9.45am.
