BATTLE of the Atlantic veterans are being invited to attend this year’s South Coast Proms for free.

The military music event takes place at HMS Excellent on Whale Island next month and features the Massed Band of the Royal Marines.

The three-hour performance includes a new arrangement of the Battle of the Atlantic Suite by Warrant Officer Bandmaster Ivan Hutchinson, Chief Instructor at the Royal Marines School of Music.

The new version has been arranged for this year’s commemorations marking the 70th anniversary of the battle.

Veterans of the Battle of the Atlantic will be offered free tickets and a chance to watch the rehearsals.

Those who are able to attend the Proms on July 5 or July 6 should contact the Massed Bands event office on (023) 9254 7203.

Tickets are available from the box office on (023) 9231 2007 or online at southcoastproms.com.

Proceeds go to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity.
