A TORPEDO boat under restoration has been launched on the water.

The Second World War Motor Torpedo Boat 219 was built in Portsmouth back in 1941 and is undergoing a £60,000 refit.

The 73ft boat has been floated in Bridgwater, Somerset, by Paul Childs.

He is working on fully restoring the boat but needs an extra £30,000 on top of the £30,000 he has already spent.

The MTB was built to defend Britain from possible German invasion.

She took part in attempts to intercept German warships Scharnhorst, Gneisenau and Prinz Eugen in 1942.

The vessel’s hull was condemned in 2012 and Mr Childs was given the boat in late 2013. He said this phase will take a year to complete.
