TODAY marks the 25th anniversary of HMS Warrior completing her journey from Hartlepool to Portsmouth following an extensive restoration programme.

The iconic ship began her journey home on June 12, 1987 and her farewell was provided by craft including the Royal Navy frigate HMS Arrow, the Harbourmaster’s launch, the Hartlepool lifeboat and around 40 fishing vessels.

Four days after the departure, HMS Warrior was welcomed home surrounded by an entourage of small boats and cheers from the crowds that lined her way.

Rockets were launched in celebration from HMS Dolphin in Gosport.

She opened shortly afterwards to welcome her first visitors on July 27, 1987. To celebrate this significant year, HMS Warrior 1860 is hosting a ‘Homecoming Ball’ on Friday July 27 which will be attended by many of those who have been involved with her history. For further details and pricing for tickets to attend, please contact the events team on 023 9277 8604 or email specialevents@hmswarrior.org.
