BROKEN down vehicles, an overturned car and road traffic accidents caused long delays on some of the city’s most important roads this morning.

The A3(M) had 45-minute delays southbound approaching the A27 westbound due to an accident on the A27, right at the peak of the rush hour.

A broken down van blocked a lane on the A27 eastbound between Eastern Road and the A3(M) turnoff, causing delays.

Two of four lanes were also blocked on the westbound A27 between Eastern Road and the A3(M) turn off because of an overturned car.

Earlier in the morning, a lorry blocked the middle lane on the westbound road between junctions nine and eight.

And two lanes at junction seven on the same side of the road were closed by the Highways Agency and Hampshire Constabulary while an accident was dealt with.

On the eastbound carriageway between junctions eight and nine, a multivehicle accident is also causing delays.

The blockages have been cleared but some delays were expected into the rest of the morning.

There were also delays on Portsmouth trains this morning, due to a gas leak.
