PEOPLE with an interest in their family tree are being given an opportunity to explore their ancestry.

Hampshire Record Office in Sussex Street, Winchester, is throwing open its doors for a Family History for Beginners workshop.

The office has a huge variety of sources to explore the history of those who lived in the county.

It holds eight miles-worth of documents including old maps, parchment rolls, photos, street directories and newspapers spanning nearly 1,000 years.

Through the archives, visitors can discover where their family lived and worked.

The workshop takes place between 6pm and 8pm on Tuesday. Call (01962) 846154 to book a place.
