POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a driver died when his car hit a tree.

The accident happened on the A29 Shripney Road, in Bognor, West Sussex, on Sunday.

At 6.50am a Peugeot 106 travelling northwards collided slightly with another vehicle before it came off the road.

The driver, a 22-year-old man from Bognor, died at the scene.

His passenger, a 17-year-old girl from Ford, suffered serious head and back injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital. She is in a critical condition.

The other driver, a 46-year-old woman from Bognor, was uninjured.
