THE first dig took place at a new leisure centre.

The Holly Hill Leisure Centre in Sarisbury Green will give Fareham residents access to state of the art sports facilities.

Overseeing the momentous occasion was Warsash Councillor Trevor Cartwright.

He said: ‘Seeing the first patch of earth dug was really pleasing.

‘I have been trying to get a swimming pool for the people of Warsash for a long time.’

The new centre, built by Balfour Beatty, will include a 25m pool with six swimming lanes, a learner pool, a gym with at least 100 pieces of equipment, exercise room and a dance studio.

‘There is something that will be available for everybody,’ said Cllr Cartwright.

It is expected that the leisure centre will be completed around July next year.
