A POPULAR museum now has disabled access thanks to the commitment and generosity of a group of volunteers who raised £10,000 in two years.

Friends of Cumberland House Natural History Museum were delighted to hand over the hard-earned cheque after several coffee mornings, fundraising parties, car boot sales and donations from Southsea Town Council and local businesses.

This money, which adds to £25,000 previously allocated by Portsmouth City Council following a petition, means the museum in Southsea now has disabled toilets, ramps throughout the ground floor and a lift.

Kathleen Lewis, who chairs the group, said: ‘This is a fantastic result for all of us and means the wonderful natural history museum is accessible to all.’
