THEY say we’re all kids at heart.

And a unique fitness class in Portsmouth is proving the old adage true.

Scores of people are getting fit by taking part in traditional playground games.

Adults are working up a sweat by enjoying children’s games, such as British Bull Dog, Tail Tag, Steal The Bacon and Captain of The Flag.

The fitness session was the brainchild of Joel Ryder, a 30-year-old fitness instructor at Portsmouth University.

‘I thought there was scope for people who want to exercise but have some fun at the same time,’ said Joel

‘We have got about 15 games that work well. I’m open to anything that people can remember from their school games.’

Playing on the school theme, participants are each given a gold star and a report card when they join up. And they are given a two-minute detention if they get too rough during a game.

The sessions take place every Tuesday at 7pm at Eastney Community Centre, Bransbury Park. The cost is £3.50 and all are welcome.

Looks like fun, but are the beards compulsory? Will I get detention with no facial hair?
