THOUSANDS of votes poured in for our Cafe of the Year competition – and now a Stubbington cafe has come out on top.
Donny’s Cafe was the winner after they were voted the most popular cafe in the area.
The News’ Cafe of the Year competition was run for the first time this year.
Donny’s, in Stubbington Green, is run by Stacey and Richard Helyer and they sell a range of breakfasts and lunches to their committed customers.
It has been open now for just over two years.
Stacey said: ‘I’m ecstatic. We are over the moon. We’re excited by it.
‘We work hard to keep the customers happy. We have got an excellent customer base.
‘It’s lovely to know that they have voted for us.’
Stacey said she thinks there are a few features which have helped them to come out on top in the competition.
‘For us it’s our attention to detail and our customer service,’ she said. ‘We work hard to look after our customers.
‘Everything is freshly prepared and lovingly made. All our food is made as the order is taken.
‘We get a lot of regulars and we also get a lot of people travelling from further afield.’
Dozens of entries were received in the competition, and they were then narrowed down to a final shortlist.
Readers were then asked to vote for their favourite.
‘I’m over the moon that The News has taken the time to do something for the small independent cafes like us,’ said Stacey. ‘It puts us on the map.
‘It’s lovely that our customers feel this way about us.’
Mark Waldron, editor of The News, said: ‘It has been fantastic to be able to celebrate our community cafes.
‘It’s so important that we support our local businesses.
‘Congratulations to Donny’s and to all the other shortlisted cafes.’
