A COUPLE have been left with a big bill after a huge tree came crashing down on their car.
Leanne Lambert, 30, and her partner Emma, 34, woke up at 5am on Monday to discover a tree had landed on their silver Renault Megane outside their home in Beauchamp Avenue, Rowner.
Emma, a logistics administrator for the Royal Navy, said there was extensive damage and it’s likely the car will be deemed a write-off.
‘I was absolutely gobsmacked,’ she said.
‘I couldn’t believe it had happened and I still can’t believe it.
‘It was so surreal.
‘You hear about it happening but you don’t expect it to happen to your own vehicle.
‘We heard the winds picking up overnight but we didn’t think this would happen.’
A tree surgeon came out and chopped the tree up into small pieces before clearing everything away with machinery.
The car was taken away by Boarhunt Garage, in Fareham, and put into storage until a technician can assess how bad the damage is.
Emma said she wants to take up what happened with Hampshire County Council because it is responsible for the roads and the tree was rotten.
