AN MEP has written to the government urging it to reverse tax changes that would force churches in Portsmouth to pay more.

Peter Skinner has written to Chancellor George Osborne challenging his proposals for listed buildings work to be subject to VAT from October.

Mr Skinner said: ‘Here in Portsmouth we have a unique architectural heritage that must be protected.

He added: ‘I want the Chancellor to protect our history and support small businesses by reversing this.’
