The Duchess of Cambridge has given birth to a baby boy, it has been announced.

Kensington Palace says the baby weighed 8lbs 6oz and was born at 4.24pm.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman said: ‘The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh are delighted at the news.’

Catherine and the Duke of Cambridge arrived at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, west London, at 6am today.

The couple did not know the sex of their first child, who will be third in line to the throne.
