Duo start chairobics class at Drayton retirement home

A GROUP of people living in a retirement home have set up their own chairobics exercise classes to keep them fit.

Ruth Prior and Janet Lance came up with the idea to host a chairobics session at Simmonds Lodge, in Drayton, after attending similar classes on cruise holidays.

The fitness duo decided to sign up their friends at the lodge, run by Churchill Retirement Living on Havant Road, and it was such a success they now run a weekly class every Monday morning.

Mrs Prior said: ‘I like to keep active and healthy, so Janet and I decided the Owners’ Lounge at Simmonds Lodge would be the ideal venue to host a weekly chairobics class.

‘We set it up with the help of the lodge manager, Tracy, and it’s taken the lodge by storm.

‘We have 12 regular attendees now who all enjoy getting stuck in.

‘It’s a fun hour session where we do sit down exercises to music, which includes a lot of stretching and low impact aerobics moves. It’s a really important thing to do as you get older.’
