I would like to wish you all a happy Easter!

They say the weather might not be as nice over the next few days, but today has been a day of glorious sunshine.

With a visiting priest, I went for a walk around the quays and Gunwharf.

It was great.

Lots of families were out and about, people were queuing to go up the Spinnaker Tower and children were busy buying Easter eggs.

There was a real sense that after the drab months of winter, spring has truly arrived. Spiritually, Easter is like this.

It is a time of rebirth and new life, a time that gives us hope.

We celebrate the central truth of our religion: the death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is the son of God. By dying on the cross, he shows us how much God loves us.

By rising from the dead, he opens up for us a way through death to the new life of heaven.

It’s this that should fill the heart of every human being with joyful hope, especially if we, or those we love are carrying the cross of suffering, illness or a terminal condition.

This Easter, I will be in our cathedral praying for everyone in our city.

I pray that the joy of the risen Christ will touch everyone’s heart in a real way and make a difference.

I pray especially for anyone in distress, that they will pass-over with Christ from suffering to peace, from sin to happiness, and from death to life.

Happy Easter!
