SAILORS have donated Easter eggs to young children in hospital.

The men and women from HMS Sultan, in Gosport, visited the paediatrics ward at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham.

Around 190 personnel from the base had taken part in an It’s a Knockout competition to raise cash to buy the eggs.

Lieutenant Joe Johnson said: ‘It’s amazing to see what a relatively simple gift can mean to the children. It makes the visit all worthwhile and it’s good to also recognise the staff here.

‘My youngest daughter was a patient here in 1996, following a severe asthma attack, so for me it is a wonderful opportunity to say thank you once more.

‘Within the Royal Navy we deploy all over the world to overcome many difficult situations, but I have to take my hat off to the nursing staff who work hard everyday to support all of the children and their families. There aren’t many people out there who could do such a good job as they do.’
