Eastern Road closed in both directions following four-car crash

The accident happened just before 4.15pm today (Sunday) as the road was busy with drivers out enjoying the sunshine.

The four cars collided close to the junction with Burrfields Road, Copnor.

Police closed the road off in both directions between the crash site and Airport Service Road.

With such an important road closed, traffic is backing up around the area.

Firefighters were called to the scene after reports that some occupants of the cars were trapped – but they were all out of their vehicles by the time they arrived.

Paramedics were also called and took one person to hospital with minor injuries.

The road is still closed while police wait for the vehicles to be removed – a Honda, Citroen and two Renaults. It is being dealt with as an accident and no arrests have been made.

Priya Mistry was travelling back to her Southsea home when she hit the traffic.

She said: ‘I was returning home from Port Solent along the Eastern Road.

‘It looked really serious because I could see the fire engines. I’m glad no-one was badly hurt.’
