A TOWN’S eco groups have teamed up to present a borough’s first green week in May.

Havant Transition Town Network and Friends of the Earth have combined with Havant Borough Council to promote a series of events aimed at helping residents go greener.

Ray Cobbett, from Havant and East Hampshire Friends of the Earth, said: ‘The message is simply that we can all play a part and that small changes can make a big difference to the quality of our local environment.’

The full programme for the week is still being worked out but there will be free talks, workshops and demonstrations around the borough.

‘The emphasis will be on the practical aspects such as energy saving, solar power, pesticide-free gardening, locally-grown foods and getting involved,’ said Mr Cobbett.

So far almost 40 local groups have been invited to take space at a free Havant Goes Greener Family Fair in Havant Park on May 28.

The organisers are urging groups planning eco events around the same time and looking for more publicity to get in touch.
