Portsmouth High School girls dazzled audiences this week with their performance of the hit musical Hairspray.

Set in 1962 Baltimore, Hairspray features big hair, big tunes and even bigger characters in a social commentary on the racial injustices of 1960s America.

The show featured a cast of 60 students with eye-catching performances from Ellie Jones,17, Leah Minnett, 16, Bria Grange, 15, Izzy Printer, 17, Lara Hardwick, 18, and Sophie Stevens,16.

Hairspray sold out for the whole of its three-night run as 600 people came to see the vibrant 60s musical.

The show’s director, drama teacher Rosemary Comrie said: ‘I think they all did extremely well. I was really proud of everybody.’
