COURAGEOUS knights and foreboding castles, fearsome dragons and princesses in need of rescue – it’s usually just stuff of fairy-tales.

But thanks to some creative thinking it’s also on the curriculum at St John’s College, Southsea.

The school’s pre-prep children are on a quest to learn about the Middle Ages.

The programme began when the youngsters found two large ‘dragon’ eggs in the school gardens. Senior school student Katy Hall then taught the children about the life of a knight. Head of pre-prep Claire Davies said: ‘They have written the most creative stories about rescuing princesses in their literacy work and learnt about knights and castles in humanities.’
