GIRLS from Portsmouth High School took part in a leaving concert.

The Scholars and Leavers Concert took place at Hinton Ampner, near Alresford.

Girls from Years 7 to 13 performed baroque compositions to Beethoven, blues, pop songs and challenging modern works.

The programme was a mix of solos and duets.

Students used the school’s new Yamaha portable electric piano, which was bought by the Parents and Staff Association specifically for this performance and future music events.

Head girl Bethany Garlands, said: ‘It was a memorable concert.

‘The setting was beautiful and it was a wonderful way to end my time at school.’

Headteacher Jane Prescott added: ‘It was lovely for the girls to perform in the historic setting where there were so many connections with their predecessors who had studied and played here.

‘It was a very poignant evening and the girls rose to the occasion and there was a wonderful atmosphere.’
