HAMPSHIRE’S education boss is urging parents to apply for primary school places now.

Cllr Roy Perry, executive lead member for children’s services, wants people whose children have their fourth birthday between September 1 and August 31 next year to apply in good time for the January 15 closing date.

He said: ‘Starting school for the first time is an important step for all children.

‘I urge Hampshire parents to ensure they have completed applications by midnight on January 15.

‘It is important for residents to note that even when applying for a school which is outside of the Hampshire local authority area this needs to be done through the county council’s admissions process.’

Parents can apply online or by requesting a paper application form from local schools.

January 15 is also the closing date for applications for children transferring from infant to junior school.

To apply online visit hants.gov.uk/admissions. Alternatively request for a paper form at a school or by calling 0845 603 5623.
