SCHOOLCHILDREN have been invited to help an astronaut grow food in space.

Tim Peake, who grew up in Westbourne, West Sussex, has partnered up with the Royal Horticultural Society to unveil the Rocket Science project at The Chelsea Flower Show.

Up to 10,000 schools will be sent seeds of rocket leaves which have been cultivated in space and asked to compare them to seeds grown normally.

Schools will be able to apply for seeds from September through the RHS Campaign for School Gardening website.
