GOSPORT College celebrated the achievements of 13 top students at its first ever awards ceremony.

The event at the college, which opened in September and offers skills-based courses, was attended by the Mayor of Gosport Cllr Christopher Richard Carter and local MP Caroline Dinenage.

Award winner Cheryl Brewer, who studies health and social care course, said: ‘I was a bit shocked to find out I’d been awarded. I’d like to work in a care home in the future and I’m on placement at Merlin Park where I go twice a week to gain work experience.’

Paul Bower, 19, a motor vehicle student who was also awarded student of the year, said he was looking forward to joining the army in August to be a vehicle mechanic in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

Ms Dinenage told the students: ‘You are an incredible example of what you can achieve and are incredibly well-trained.

‘You are a real asset to the area and great ambassadors.’
