Beaulieu traces its links to William Shakespeare

A FAMILY attraction is holding a summer of themed events to tell the story of its historic links with Shakespeare's only acknowledged patron.

Beaulieu is owned by the Montagu family, whose ancestor Henry Wriothesley, the 3rd Earl of Southampton, spent large sums on the patronage of writers, including Shakespeare, who dedicated two of his poems to the Earl.

To tell the Beaulieu story, Shakespearean playlets will be performed in Palace House, which has been home to the Montagu family since 1538. The productions will take place during May half-term and through the summer. See beaulieu.co.uk.
