YOUNGSTERS at a Gosport pre-school can enjoy a bit of quiet time on three benches donated in honour of a much-loved former teacher.
Rhona Pierce was one of the founders of the Alverstoke Pre-school in Bury Road, Gosport.
She died last year at the age of 84.
Her husband Doug wanted to give the school something to remember her by and bought three wooden benches with her name on.
The chairman of the school’s committee Rachel Webber said: ‘It was a very generous gesture for the children. They have been enjoying the benches quite a bit already.
‘They are just somewhere nice for children and parents to sit for a chat. Plus it’s something for people to remember Rhona by.
‘She was very well thought of here.
‘If it wasn’t for her the pre-school wouldn’t exist.’
Alverstoke Pre-school was founded by a group of parents 44 years ago and now has 70 children.
Rhona was also a big supporter of the Gosport Community Association at Thorngate Halls.
Ms Webber added: ‘We have a great community here and many of the children we have today are sons and daughters of people who came here when Rhona was here.
‘So it’s nice for them to have something to remember her by too and it keeps her memory alive.’
