PRIMARY pupils, parents and staff at a school in Southsea took part in a range of outdoor challenges to raise money for the Red Cross Appeal for eastern Africa.

The annual Challenge Day at St John’s College was a huge success as youngsters got stuck into obstacle courses, art competitions, sports challenges, quizzes and much more.

Ben Cheeseman, 10, who raised £30, said: ‘Today has been really fun. My favourite activity was moving the bucket outside the circle without actually touching the bucket!’

Tony Shrubsall, head of the infant and junior school, added: ‘Our Challenge Day is always a really big event for us. Last year we rose over £1,000 for our chosen charity, and we are keen to raise the same – if not more – to help people affected by the severe droughts and famine in East Africa.’
