SCHOOL leavers unable to secure or fund a place at a conventional university or seeking an alternative career path are being encouraged to consider joining the international maritime sector.

Isle of Wight-based youth education charity UKSA still has 12 bursaries left to allocate on its four-year cadetship, which includes a foundation degree in operational yacht science.

Training begins in October and allows students to earn while they learn.

The Yachting Cadetships for 18 to 25-year-olds are part-funded by UK maritime charities.
