VOLUNTEERS are urgently needed to help families with children under school age who are struggling.
Home-Start Butser, in East Hampshire, has been recruiting and training volunteers to befriend and support families with children under five for the past 16 years. They have a team of 60 volunteers supporting on average 80 families a year.
Nicola Winter, senior organiser at the charity, said: ‘Our volunteers can’t commit to helping for the rest of their lives, so we are always looking for volunteers.
‘And even if people don’t want to train as a home visiting volunteer, we can always do with help in the office, fundraising, on our management committee, supporting our family groups or helping out with trips or Christmas parties. There’s enough to go around.’
The next preparation course to train volunteers is at Merchistoun Hall, Horndean, on Tuesday, October 7. It is from 9.30am to 12.30pm.
The only requirement is parenting experience. Home-Start are also keen to recruit fathers and grandfathers as well as parents from diverse ethnic backgrounds.
