PORTSMOUTH City Council is inviting parents to call in over two days to find out if their child is eligible for free school meals.

Rather than fill out a form, parents can call one of two numbers on December 6 and 7 and get a decision straight away.

Youngsters are entitled to claim free school meals if their parents are in receipt of income support, jobseekers’ allowance, income-related employment and support allowance, or if they have an annual income of less than £16,190.

A council spokeswoman said: ‘School lunches can be a real stress. We all want to know that our little ones are eating nutritious healthy food that keeps them alert and active throughout the school day. But for busy parents this isn’t always easy.

‘So it’s good news if your family qualify for free school meals, no bills and no hassle but delicious, healthy meals for your child.’

Call 023 9283 4962 or 023 9284 1231 on the days mentioned to find out if you are eligible.
