Charity-run Southsea school club gets good Ofsted
A CHARITY-RUN after-school and breakfast club which provides support for children with special needs and those who speak English as a second language has won a good Ofsted rating.
Schoolfriend Club, which operates from a classroom in Wimborne Juniors, Southsea, was applauded for providing interesting activities and treating children equally.
Inspector Fiona Robinson said: ‘Children behave well because staff are very good role models, with a consistent approach to managing behaviour.
‘Festivals, such as Bonfire Night and Easter, and themes including America and Holland enrich children’s understanding of other lifestyles, customs and cultures.
‘They learn to speak and write words in Dutch and sample food from other countries, which promotes children’s confidence and self-esteem.’
She added: ‘Children enjoy coming to the club and achieve well in their activities. Their communication, language and literacy skills are developed well through role play.’
