A NEW playground has opened at a primary school after more than £10,000 was raised.

Pupils at Castle Primary School in Portchester are celebrating the opening of a new Play Trail in the school grounds.

New benches will also be provided for the children. The money was raised from film nights, school discos and fairs over the past year.

Ian Heslop, member of the Friends of Castle School (Focs), said: ‘The feedback I have had from all the kids and the adults has been very positive.

‘Everybody really likes it. For the kids it’s very important.

‘They didn’t have anything to play on before. All the kids love it. They are really enjoying it.’

A summer fair will take place at the school from 11am until 3pm on Saturday.
