Portsmouth students inspired about their futures at event

TALENTED construction student Matthew Wilson is flying the flag for Highbury College at a national skills competition.

The 19-year-old, who lives in Chichester, is taking part in the national finals of SkillBuild 2012 in Preston.

He is competing in the carpentry category against some of the best trainees in the country.

Matthew is one of the Cosham-based college’s construction trainees.

The final, which is being held at Preston College, finishes tomorrow and winners will be announced at a closing dinner and reception tomorrow.

The event is staged by CITB-ConstructionSkills, the Sector Skills Council, and the Industry Training Board for the construction industry, and sees more than 100 talented people battling to be crowned the best in their field.

Matthew, who works for TFW Construction Ltd, said: ‘I think my time at college, along with my time at 
work, has really helped me and put me in good shape to compete.’
